Certified translation written for the Turkish community in the UK
If you or your family hold documents issued in Turkey and need them accepted in the United Kingdom — or you need an English document prepared in Turkish — a certified translation is usually the first practical step. G Translation is a London-based English–Turkish practice that works with individuals, families and solicitors across the UK, including people who prefer to explain their documents in Turkish and receive the finished translation in clear British English.
This guide explains when certified translation is needed, which documents come up most often, what a receiving body typically looks for, and how to request a fixed quote without posting originals. It is general information to help you plan, not legal advice. The authority you are applying to decides what it will accept.
When Turkish speakers in the UK need a certified translation
A scan on its own is rarely enough once a document leaves the family and enters an official process. UK bodies generally expect a complete English rendering, signed by a qualified translator, when the source is in Turkish. The situations we see most often include:
- Family, spouse, settlement and citizenship applications, where birth, marriage and divorce certificates support identity and relationship claims. See our immigration and asylum translation services and our overview of Turkish documents for UK immigration.
- Court, tribunal and solicitor work — witness statements, powers of attorney, court decisions and contracts that must keep their legal effect in English. See our legal and medical translation services.
- University admissions and qualification checks, including diplomas and transcripts prepared for a UK institution or a comparability statement.
- Employment, housing, benefits and NHS appointments, where a letter, payslip bundle or medical report has to be read by someone who does not read Turkish.
- Documents going the other way — English certificates, court orders or school letters that a Turkish authority, relative or notary needs in Turkish.
Documents the community asks us to translate
Most enquiries are for a small set of civil and official papers rather than long commercial files. We translate in both directions and keep names, dates, registration numbers, stamps and handwritten notes exactly as they appear. Common requests include:
- Birth certificates and nüfus kayıt örnekleri
- Marriage certificates, divorce decrees and death certificates
- Passports, kimlik cards and driving licences
- Police clearance certificates (adli sicil kaydı)
- Diplomas, degrees and academic transcripts
- Medical reports and discharge letters
- Solicitor bundles, court documents and UKVI submissions
What “certified” means for a UK submission
In the UK there is no single national stamp that every institution must accept. What most bodies ask for is a full, faithful translation prepared by a qualified translator and accompanied by a signed Statement of Accuracy, the translator’s name and contact details, and a layout close enough to the original that an officer can compare fields. Our certified work is prepared by a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), supported by the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) in English–Turkish Law.
Certification is not the same as notarisation or an apostille. If you are unsure which format a council, university or the Home Office has asked for, read certified versus notarised translation in the UK and tell us the receiving body when you enquire. We can adjust the certification wording where a specific institution has set its own wording. Acceptance always rests with that institution. For the checks we apply before release, see our compliance checklist for certified Turkish translations.
A remote service for families anywhere in the UK
You do not need to live in London, and you do not need to post the original certificate. Most of the Turkish community we work with sends clear photographs or scans by email and receives the certified translation as a PDF, ready to upload or print. That suits people in London, the Midlands, the North and elsewhere who are balancing work, school runs and a visa deadline.
If the matter is a meeting rather than a document — a solicitor appointment, a hospital consultation, a school meeting or an exhibition — we also provide English–Turkish interpreting by telephone, video or in person, arranged around the time you already have.
How to request a quote
A useful enquiry takes a few minutes and usually receives a fixed quote the same business day:
- Photograph or scan every page, including the back, stamps, seals and any handwriting.
- Say whether you need Turkish into English or English into Turkish, who will receive the translation, and the date you need it.
- Send the files to info@gtranslation.co.uk or upload them through the contact form. For a same-day question, call +44 7990 096669 or the office line +44 20 3637 4669.
What happens after you send the documents
We review legibility and length before quoting, so the fee and turnaround are agreed before any work starts. A single certificate is often ready within 24 to 48 hours; longer bundles and urgent hearings are quoted separately. The finished file is checked for names, dates, terminology and layout, then signed and stamped where certification has been requested. Originals stay with you.
If you would rather talk it through first, our frequently asked questions cover certification, turnaround and confidentiality, or request a translation quote and we will reply with a clear next step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you translate for Turkish families outside London?
Yes. G Translation is based in London and works remotely with clients across the UK. Send clear scans by email or through the contact form and we will return a certified PDF. You do not need to post the original document.
Can I explain my documents in Turkish?
Yes. You can write or call in Turkish or English. Tell us who will receive the translation and your deadline, and we will confirm the language direction before we start.
Will the Home Office accept the translation?
We prepare certified translations with a signed Statement of Accuracy and the translator’s credentials, which is the format commonly requested for UK submissions. The receiving authority decides whether a particular file meets its rules, so share any wording they have given you and we will follow it where we can.
How quickly can you translate a birth or marriage certificate?
A single, clearly legible certificate is often completed within 24 to 48 hours. If you have a fixed visa or court date, say so when you enquire and we will confirm whether an earlier delivery is realistic before you commit.
How do I get a quote?
Email your scans to info@gtranslation.co.uk or use the contact form, and include the receiving institution and your deadline. We reply with a fixed quote, usually the same business day. You can also call +44 7990 096669.
